Unit 6: Social media and globalisation

  Crowd Funding: Allows people who want to start projects ask others to fund their project.  Crowd Sourcing: Individuals or organisation obtain personnel for projects and to collaborate on projects.  As of 2021, crowdsourcing typically involves using the internet to attract and divide work between participants to achieve an end goal.

  1. Connectivity of ideas and people. Able to talk people around the world.  2. Sharing of technology and innovation 3. Financing, personnel, generation of funding.  Web-utopianism - Web-uptopianism or utopian internet is a sub category of technology utopianism and the belief that online communication helps bring about a more decentralised, democratic and libertarian society.  Media theorist David Gauntlett (web utopian) believes that geographical boundaries are non-existent thanks to social media and connectivity.  Digital trendsetting    Simon Minter   

  - Theorist Marshal; McLuhan in his book the "Understanding Media: the Extensions of Man" (1964) suggested that one day we would live in a "Global Village"  - Owing to advancements in technology we would be more interconnected with one another.  - In turn would bring about a tribal mentality, focusing on "in and out groups". In a political context this can be seen as discrimination and having negative connotations.  Twitterati: People who take to twitter to try and control and influence other peoples thoughts and ideas.  Advantages  - Communicate and connect with others around the world.  - access information easier.  - People know about what is happening around the world.  Disadvantages  - Trolls  - Misinformation.  - Can be influenced easier.  Technological divide  - Technology rich and technology poor. 

  What is cross platform marketing? Marketing across multiple media platforms  Whose theory is Wikinomics? Don Tapscott and Williams.  Why is wikinomics an important concept as part of understanding globalisation? It has changed the economy which means someone who consumes content can now produce content and make money from it. 

Media Product - Loki    The product is a television show about the god of mischief Loki who escaped from the Avengers in 2012 with the tesseract aka "the space stone." The main purpose of Loki was to entertain. Loki, was produced by Marvel studios which is a subsidiary of Disney. 

  What does soundcloud do? Soundcloud lets starting music artists or bands release they're music and let them produce their own music, giving the tools they need to do so.  A prosumer is a consumer who is also producing content on social media  Globalisation is the production and consumption of media products across the globe, it links with social media because that means media companies such as Disney can advertise a new Marvel film in places like Korea or Australia at the same time they release their advertisement in the USA
