Task 4 LO1: The Global Village Theory (1964)

 - Theorist Marshal; McLuhan in his book the "Understanding Media: the Extensions of Man" (1964) suggested that one day we would live in a "Global Village" 

- Owing to advancements in technology we would be more interconnected with one another. 

- In turn would bring about a tribal mentality, focusing on "in and out groups". In a political context this can be seen as discrimination and having negative connotations. 

Twitterati: People who take to twitter to try and control and influence other peoples thoughts and ideas. 

Advantages 

- Communicate and connect with others around the world. 

- access information easier. 

- People know about what is happening around the world. 


Disadvantages 

- Trolls 

- Misinformation. 

- Can be influenced easier. 


Technological divide  - Technology rich and technology poor.
